Engraved title leaf with 8 portrait medallions of ecclesiastics whose relevance to St. Catherine is explained in letterpress text on p. [3]-[4]. Bull of Clement VIII concerning Catherine, p. [5]-[6]. Port. of Catharine, p. [7]. Thirty-two engraved plates numbered at the head I-XXXII, with explanatory text beneath. The port. and the last plate are signed by Cornelis Galle as engraver. It has been suggested that the plates are after drawings by Jan van der Straet, the source of a number of engravings by the Galle workshop; however the present work does not appear in A. Baroni Vannucci's monograph on van der Straet (Milan, 1997). The final sequence of pages contains a description of the XXXII plates in French, entitled: La vie de S. Catherine de Sienne, vièrge et religievse dv Sainct Ordre de S. Dominicqve, & miracles triez d'icelle
Binding: 19th-century marbled paper, half tan goatskin
[6] pages, [1], XXXII leaves of plates, [8] pages (the last blank) : 21 cm (4to)
